Deric Carner makes drawings, publications and live art in order to explore critical aspects of signification and exchange. He is a collector and manipulator of signs and messages, replaying them in speculative relation to media and sign-value. In his art, fragmentary language systems and pastiched graphic forms create formal associations which are somehow alienated from their affect. This alienation or split between intellect and emotion, self and other, commodity and fulfillment reflects an anxiety and fascination towards representation within contemporary culture. Carner's work seeks dually to bridge and widen this apparent divide. This is done through research based investigations, re-designation, collage, collaboration, and contextual exchanges.
