About
Using existing images, painting, sound and sculpture, Carner's work intercuts between different sign systems and ideas found in news media, films and books. His work replays familiar cultural narratives in order to explore the fantastic and uncanny possibilities of expression within contemporary society. Carner grew up in developing countries where he learned first hand the potential disparity between grand narratives and local experience. His work seeks to replicate and intervene in the experience of cultural alienation resulting from this type of disparity. The results are familiar in their fragmented media aesthetic, yet offer divergent indexes for understanding.
